Lockhart ISD

M.L. Cisneros Freshman Campus

M.L. Cisneros is the original Lockhart High School, and was constructed in 1923. The facility most recently served 9th grade students. It has received several additions and upgrades over the years to better serve its students, including a Gym, Ag shop and Science Wing. However, 9th grade students will be moving to the newly expanded and renovated high school this fall.

Consistent with the recommendations from the original community based facilities task force, the District is pursuing a strategy to repurpose the old building. As recommended by the task force, the District is considering the option of consolidating all administrative functions into this single facility.

While most administrative staff are currently housed at 105 S. Colorado, in what was once the local feed store, a number of support services, including Special Education, Child Nutrition, Community Education, Technology, etc., are housed in satellite facilities. Consolidation of all District Support Services into a single facility will enable the Administration to better serve the community. Additionally, a portion of the facility is being considered for Pride High School.

The repurposing of M.L. Cisneros keeps this historic building as an important part of our School District and our Community. This is made possible by savings achieved through the community supported 2014 Bond Program, and from a contribution of District Fund Balance.
